Black FM Radio Music Station Finally Returning to Phoenix Airwaves; KRDP Needs Your Support
KRDP Radio Phoenix™ is the public radio program unit of Desert Soul Media, Inc., a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, which provides trauma-informed multimedia literacy and technical training programs.
Starting in summer 2022, Radio Phoenix Jazz, to be broadcast on KRDP 90.7 FM in Phoenix’s East Valley, will air a Jazz, Blues & Soul music format mixed with community news, public affairs, and specialty programming primarily targeting Arizona’s African-American community. It is the first FM radio station in the Phoenix metropolitan area and the state of Arizona that is wholly owned and/or controlled by African Americans since the sale of KMJK 106.9 FM in January 2001 and KRDP wants your help in maintaining it.
KRDP hosted a fundraiser on April 20 at the 3RD STREET THEATER/ Phoenix Center for the Arts to allow the public to learn more about the station’s short-term and long-term goals. Attendees at the fundraiser also met some of the radio show hosts and volunteers.
In order for the station to remain in operation and successful, KRDP program director Calvin Worthen says Arizona residents can make one-time donations and monthly recurring donations. Local businesses and corporations can also purchase sponsorships.
