A Time for Healing, A Time for Change, A Time for Theater
Celebrate Juneteenth and enjoy an evening of live theater at ASU Kerr, featuring “Lost Boys Found” by Julie Amparano Garcia and directed by James E. Garcia, and “The Moment” by James E. Garcia and directed by Rod Ambrose. This show is presented by New Carpa Theater Co.
“Lost Boys Found”
Imagine a world where doors open magically, pools of water spiral down porcelain bowls, and metal boxes cook food in minutes. The refugees of Sudan, known as Lost Boys, found that world in the U.S., thousands of miles from their war-torn nation and squalid refugee camps. Lost Boys Found is about the resilience of the human spirit, based on the oral histories of Sudanese refugees who came to Arizona in search of a new life.
“The Moment”
Nina and her children, Billy and Kelsey, live quiet lives in the D.C. suburbs. Despite her bookkeeping job at the White House and a 20-year career in government, Nina’s never had much interest in politics, though her mom, Shirley, loves to wax on about her days in the Black Panthers. But the family’s life takes a turn on February 10, 2007—the day an audacious politician with “a funny name” announces his quest to become America’s first Black president. This is the story of one family’s awakening and The Moment that changes the course of their lives and history forever.
