skinnyblk Stage Show on October 20-28
As the topics of masculinity, gender and sexuality become more and more accessible in mainstream American culture, rapper, poet, and educator Sean Avery debuts their two-part Hip-Hop project, skinnyblk. Simultaneously an album and play, skinnyblk is a multimedia journey through Avery’s life that celebrates being both Black and gender non-binary by confronting the stigmas of toxic masculinity and race through interdisciplinary performance art. Directed and produced by Dr. Tamika Sanders, music by rapper and beatmaker Mic Maven, and performed with a rotating ensemble of performance artists, skinnyblk uses anime, superheroes, dance, rap, and spoken word to challenge the lines separating “boy” and “girl” as Avery struggles to discover their authentic self.
The stage show will run on:
Saturday, October 20 at 7 pm
Sunday, October 21 at 2 pm
Saturday, October 27 at 7 pm
