PHOENIX – The 75-year tradition of Fashionetta benefiting community programs and scholarships will continue as the Phoenix AKARAMA Foundation and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Delta Beta Omega Chapter reimagine the event with a virtual week of activities.
The popular fashion show and breakfast will be transformed during the first week of December to join forces with a global virtual movement to adhere to health guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic.
“There is no denying that the coronavirus pandemic has reshaped how every in-person gathering looks today and we are no different,” 2020 event chair Rochonne Simmons said. “We needed to come up with a virtual program that shows the spirit of Fashionettta, encourages community engagement, and gives our community friends an opportunity to support the foundation, and we think this virtual celebration does that.”
This virtual week of celebration and giving will kick off on #GivingTuesday, Dec. 1, and culminate on what would be Fashionetta Saturday, Dec. 5. Weeklong programming will include a virtual shopping experience and inclusion in the #GivingTuesday global effort that harnesses the collective philanthropic power of generous individuals, communities, and organizations.
“It made sense to partner with #GivingTuesday, especially in our new hyper-virtual world,” Simmons said. “By joining forces, we are expanding the foundation’s reach and bringing in new donor partners and friends.”
Anyone will be able to visit the #GivingTuesday website and make a contribution to the foundation, no matter where they are located.
Each night of the week, the foundation also will highlight the 2020 scholarship recipients, the foundation’s educational programs and community programs, and more. There will be a virtual shopping experience on Friday, Dec. 4, and a morning of Fashionetta fun on Saturday, Dec. 5. In addition, there will be a virtual raffle with several prizes. Digital advertising and sponsorships are also available.
“While we can’t duplicate the energy and excitement of what would take place on the first Saturday in December, this virtual Fashionetta celebration includes all the fun, from the comfort of your home,” Simmons said. “We are going to highlight our educational programs on Wednesday and our community programs on Thursday. Then, there will be virtual shopping from some of our best vendors and live music on Friday. And, of course, all of this leads up to Fashionetta Saturday. Some great things are being planned.”
