Each January, the City of Chandler holds a series of events to honor the community’s heritage and diversity, along with the spirit, ideals, life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the civil rights movement. Here are some of the events:

The Chandler Multicultural Festival teamed up with the Chandler International Film Festival and Creative + Cultural to bring you a collaborative and eclectic weekend of international films, cultural performances, food and beverage vendors, and fun for the family. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs as you join us for an amazing evening. Cultural art and food vendors will have items for sale.

Mesa MLK Parade – 2019
Monday, January 21, 2019 – 11 AM
Parade begins on Martin Luther King Jr. Way & Center Street in Mesa
The Community is invited to join the City of Mesa and the Mesa MLK Committee in celebration of the Dream of Martin Luther King Jr. on January 21, 2019. Community groups, organizations, businesses, churches, dance groups, bands, and regional cities will stroll in Downtown Mesa during this community event.

In 2019, the Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee will celebrate its 33rd year of promoting cultural diversity, awareness and unity as it seeks to involve all Arizonans in recognizing the legacy or Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the contributions he left to the world in his quest for equality for all people.

Goode Lifetime Achievement Award, Living The Dream awards and a Legacy Award. The event kicks off with the MLK Torch Run.

The 2019 MLK Celebration is a long-standing tradition of the Arizona Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, with a series of events honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King.
Join the City of Phoenix along with city leaders, schools, local businesses, churches and community organizations, as we pay homage to this great Civil Rights leader on Monday, January 15, 2018.
The MLK March will begin at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on 15th Street /Jefferson Steet and end at Hance Park. Assemble at 8:30 AM as March begins promptly at 9:00 AM

In honor of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the city of Surprise is hosting a day of celebration and service on Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the outside courtyard at Surprise City Hall, located at 16000 N Civic Center Plaza.

Keynote Speaker – Clay Dix
Dix has been a social worker, agency administrator, educator, consultant, staff trainer and public speaker. He is nationally recognized for his lifetime commitment to diversity and fatherhood. He worked for Arizona State University West and served as the chairman of the social work departments at Valparaiso University and ASU West. Dix founded and directed the New Choices Program, an alcohol and drug treatment program that also develops parenting skills and prevents child abuse and neglect. He is active with Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and has volunteered on numerous community boards, including Maricopa County Community Services Commission, Salvation Army Family Services Board of Directors, National Council on Alcoholism, Christian Family Care Agency and the Judicial Council of the Arizona State Supreme Court.

All are invited to attend the 21st Annual MLK Diversity Awards Breakfast. Each year the Tempe Human Relations Commission honors local individuals, businesses, and community groups that have demonstrated a commitment to diversity in Tempe. The 21st Annual Diversity Awards presentation will include a breakfast, entertainment, and a keynote speech by Roy Tatem, East Valley NAACP President.
