“Why I Started the BLACK Women’s Walk In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, like many others, I found myself closed in — physically, mentally, and emotionally. For over two years, the world stood still, and so did we.
Isolated from one another, disconnected from community, and burdened with the weight of uncertainty, I felt a deep void. But I also felt something else stirring inside me — a powerful desire to reconnect, to move, and to heal.
Out of that moment of reflection came something purposeful. I began organizing walks for women — not just as an act of physical wellness, but as a means of reclaiming space, strength, and sisterhood. The more I walked, the more I saw the need: women, especially Black women, needed this. We needed each other. We needed movement, joy, and safe spaces to breathe deeply and feel whole again.
And so, the BLACK Women’s Walk was born.
This walk is more than an event. It’s a movement. A gathering grounded in the belief that healing begins with action — one step at a time. It’s about promoting a healthy lifestyle, yes, but it’s also about creating space for mental wellness, heart health, and emotional restoration. It's about caring for the whole woman — body, mind, and soul.
I created the BLACK Women’s Walk to remind us that we are not alone. That our health matters.
That joy, rest, and connection are not luxuries — they are necessities. Walking side by side, we strengthen our bodies, quiet our minds, and nurture our spirits. We hold space for each other, we laugh, we share, we breathe.
Because when Black women heal, families heal. Communities heal. Generations heal.
I chose the third week in February for this annual scenic walk. Mark your calendars for February 21, 2026.”
