Each January, the City of Chandler holds a series of events to honor the community’s heritage and diversity, along with the spirit, ideals, life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the civil rights movement. Here are some of the events:
23rd Annual Chandler Multicultural Festival

FREE TO THE PUBLIC
This year’s 23rd annual Chandler Multicultural Festival has teamed up with the Chandler International Film Festival to bring you a collaborative and eclectic weekend of international films, cultural performances, food and beverage vendors, and fun for the family. As the Multicultural Festival comes to an end at 7:30 p.m. on January 13, the Chandler International Film Festival will then take over and present a series of short films out on the lawn for festival goers to enjoy.

One: Candlelight Vigil for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Sunday, January 14, 2018 – Free event
5 to 7 p.m.
Downtown Library Courtyard (Downtown Stage)
This event will take place on Sunday, January 14th at the Downtown Chandler stage on the lawn of the Chandler Public Library. The event will include an introduction by local clergy members, a short MLK documentary, the candlelight ceremony, and performances by local musicians. Please come celebrate unity in Chandler!

In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the city of Peoria is bringing Alex Boyé to the Centennial Plaza stage.

Alex Boye’ is known for his dynamic African-infused songs that have gained over 400 million views on YouTube. He is a uniquely versatile artist with a style that appeals to all ages. He has shared the stage with many notable artists including, Jay-Z, Tim McGraw, George Michael, Missy Elliott and Justin Timberlake.

In 2018, the Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Committee will celebrate its 32nd year of promoting cultural diversity, awareness and unity as it seeks to involve all Arizonans in recognizing the legacy or Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and the contributions he left to the world in his quest for equality for all people. The week-long celebration includes the MLK Celebration Awards & Scholarship Breakfast, Candlelight Ceremony, Community Service Day, MLK Annual March & Festival and Youth Rally.

The Arizona Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee is celebrating its 32nd year honoring the legacy of Dr. King on Friday, January 12, 2018 with the theme: I Believe in the Dream. The public is invited to join in the activities planned to focus on the fulfillment of a dream.

The 2018 MLK Celebration is a long-standing tradition of the Arizona Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee, with a series of events honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King.
Join the City of Phoenix along with city leaders, schools, local businesses, churches and community organizations, as we pay homage to this great Civil Rights leader on Monday, January 15, 2018.
The MLK March will begin at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on 15th Street /Jefferson Steet and end at Hance Park. Assemble at 8:30 AM as March begins promptly at 9:00 AM
