BLACK BOOK AZ Remodels Community Connection
Offers NO-CHARGE listings to assure all businesses are present and accounted for
Phoenix (February 15, 2013) - BLACK BOOK AZ (BBAZ), a publication of Targeted Media Communications, is a high quality, premier resource and business directory utilized by the African American market in Arizona. BBAZ was originally established in 1986 as the Black Commerce Guide, and was distributed solely in central Phoenix. In 1996 it was rebranded as the Arizona Black Pages (AZBP). The printed directory has grown from its initial production of 1,000 copies to its present distribution of 50,000 copies per issue, most recently adding BLACK BOOK AZ – Airport Edition (BBAZ-AE) with distribution of 40,000 copies. BBAZ-AE provides access to information about the African American community in Arizona to 20.1 million passengers annually at Sky Harbor International Airport.
The first edition of BLACK BOOK AZ was published in 2009 and contained 700 listings in 225 business categories. Online expansion is set to happen via BlackBookAZ.com, with no cost for businesses to list in this online version of the directory. According to D.A. Peartree, President and Chief Executive Officer of Targeted Media Communications (TMC), BBAZ develops information that connects with all business and lifestyle needs of its readers, and engaging the community has been the pinnacle of its success. The renaming to BBAZ was based on the way the market recalls and retains the brand. Many readers simply refer to the directory as the “Black Book.”
“A significant investment has been made on the backend development of our site, allowing us to gather data on the human experience as readers search for community insight,” says Peartree.
The traditional role of BBAZ has been to unify the community through informational resources, cultural aspects and outreach. The newly launched site is a direct response to the way readers want their information segmented, and gathers data that allows for a real time view of the market according to variables such as home ownership, marital status, location, birth date and much more. Businesses are able to opt in annually to retain a business listing at no charge. The community is encouraged to sign up and stay connected by selecting the type of information they want to receive, and daily results reveal the categories they are searching. The site also includes photo reviews of community activities, blogs of reader interests, press releases, coupon offers, and a calendar of community events. Organizations and event promoters regularly give away tickets and products to readers via BBAZ’s outreach services.
